Mr.Sweet and I have always made sure to create a space for our friends and family that is welcoming, comfortable, and entertaining. At the start of COVID-19, we wanted to ensure that we could still entertain our family and friends in the safest way possible by setting up a comparable space. When we bought our house in the heart of Nashville almost two years ago, we loved the location, and we knew we could make the space a Sweet Vibe! Our three-bedroom home boasts the best entertainment spaces ever. We’ve hosted the most epic dinner parties and events in the Sweet house.
When we want to head out on the town, we’re literally an Uber ride away from all of the Nashville hot spots! Best of all, our quaint neighborhood is peaceful and quite perfect. We honestly feel like we’ve got the best of all worlds, but we are limited in space because we live in the city. Therefore, this blog post is for anyone with a small yard or all of us sheltering in place, wanting to design a backyard oasis.

Patio Furniture and Covers:
Furniture is necessary. For my design, I wanted to stick with neutral colors. You can’t go wrong when you start with this slate. We choose a sectional that we could take apart in case we needed to social distance with guests. In addition to the sectional, I bought a chair set in case we had a few more guests to entertain. To add some elevation and design to the deck, I added an Egg chair from Walmart. To keep your patio furniture safe, you’ll want to invest in a patio cover. Patio furniture is made for outdoors, but you still have to protect it. Invest in a deck box! You can toss the pillows in there when the bad weather rolls in.

Patio Decor:
Like I mentioned before, you can build off of your neutral slate. I chose to stick with the neutrals and added black and white pillows. Pillows can make your patio! They add comfort and an enjoyable aspect. I added a black and white striped 3 x 5 rug that I could easily toss in the washer. Outdoor rugs and pillows can go through some weathering. Make sure you can remove the covers too easily toss them in the washing machine. After spending a few hot days out on our deck, we decided that an Umbrella was needed! It further added to the enhancement of the atmosphere.

Fire Pit:
After a long day in the pool, I noticed that I yearned for the aura of a warm fire pit. With a smaller deck and all of the decor, I wanted to make sure that the firepit was small enough to fit the existing mold and get the job done. My pipestone fire column is more than enough. You do not need a fire pit table or a large setup. This column is small and adds the element that you desire.

Bug Repellant:
Treating your space is going to very necessary! We do not have a screened in area, and we also have a pool so we have to take the extra steps to make sure we are becoming a breeding ground for Mosquitos. We invested in a few products to make sure our backyard was ride of pesky insects and we could enjoy our outdoor living room accordingly.

Patio Plants:
Again, neutral furniture pallets allow you to embellish the patio with colorful plants. Initially, I bought plants from Lowes, and they didn’t farewell. I took them back and bought evergreen plants from Hewitt Gardens in Franklin. Evergreen plants can withstand all weather and seasons. I bought neutral colored plant stands. I added pops of color with a seasonal box of flowers. I’ll switch them out as seasons go by.

Pool Necessities:
At the beginning of the pandemic, I knew we’d probably be limited on our summer travels or downtown Nashville rooftop pool escapades. Therefore, I decided to invest in an above ground pool. I looked everywhere for a pool, and most were sold out. Clearly, everyone was thinking about what I was thinking! I got on a waiting list for Target for the Summer Waves Wicker pool, which matched out deck furniture, and finally – one came available. I’d already measured the area that we would place it in, which is very necessary. You want to make sure your pool fits your space and matched the aesthetic. We hired a landscaper to set it up and level it. We also had sod laid around it to make it more appealing. Pools take work and daily maintenance, so I’ve listed how we treat our small pool below.
