I am Jasmine Sweet. Yes, that is my real name. I thought when I got married that my new last name would be as simple as it is. However, no one thinks “Sweet” is a real last name. Ha! I went from having to spell out my maiden name (H-O-C-K-E-T-T) to having to explain my married name. So, here goes, I am Jasmine Sweet like something you eat!
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Memphis in 2011. I then worked in corporate for a financial institution, a health care company and currently, higher education as a marketing manager. I also have an MBA from Union University. In the midst of working at those places, I worked retail jobs at Dillard’s and BCBG! 20-somethings entail a lot of different experiences. I have also been a freelance blogger for various outlets: Huffington Post and Everything Girls Love to name a few. I also manage digital marketing for my sister, international recording artist, Valerie June. Guess what else. I also serve as a Communications Director for Grammy Award Winning Artist, Dom Flemons. And guess what else. I run my own blog – social media and all! So that is a total of 4 jobs. I also regularly take on freelance clients! Guess what else. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Now that we have that out of the way, I’ll tell you a little more about what’s beneath the candy wrapper. I am 27 years old. I love God. I love my family. I can draw. I can sing. I can dance. I love laughing. I love public speaking! I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers. My mom is one of my best friends! I lost my daddy to congestive heart failure last year. Sigh. The struggle is real. I workout 4 times a week. I am married to a Godsend, Alex Wesley Sweet!!! I live in Nashville. I love Ghirardelli chocolate. I have naturally curly hair. I wear 22-inch weave during the winter months! I have more than enough BEST FRIENDS. I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I’m all about living my best life and sharing it with friends which are why blogging suites me!
I started blogging 7 years ago. To read one of my first ones, click here. Ha! I blogged under an alias (Carmen Clay) because I was so anxious about what my audience would think. Then, my blog turned into my portfolio so that I could apply for jobs! Now, my blog is my life! I am pouring my all into this. After 8 years, it’s about time.
