Making it to the gym before or after you start your busy day is a task that you have to put at the top of your priority list if you plan to make a routine out of it. It has been said that it takes nearly 254 days to form a new habit. From day one of working out to infinity, you have to do it and commit to it. From there, you’ll learn to enjoy it and thereof, sometimes burn 1k calories or more.
I’ve always enjoyed sweating. Growing up, I participated in a plethora of extracurricular activities from soccer to cheerleading to dancing to cross country. Then, training for the swimsuit portion of pageants forced me into rigorous workout routines. These habitual actions of exercise led me to love the intensity of working out! So, I set a goal of burning 1k calories or close to it whenever I workout. It’s like competing with myself. It also provides a high-level milestone that I can adhere to rather I 100% reach it or not. Most days, I burn no less than 600 calories. I’d like to say my “self-competitive mentality” pushes me to achieve my goals!
If you aren’t used to working out just yet, I’d say start with a few classes that you enjoy. Each week, you’ll find me releasing all of the stress in Kickboxing, pedaling like I’m on an escape mission in Cycling, or trying out for the Nutcracker in Barre. I’m embarking on these classes every week in addition to other cardio such as running or the stair master. Attending these classes holds me accountable and the intensity of them helps me meet my 1k calorie goal. Some days, I’ll do two classes and surprise myself with high results. I’m no trainer, but I do know how to make my own body feel great through a good workout. Choose something that’s good for your body. Perhaps, the elliptical is your best friend. Remember, we aren’t all bodybuilders and we shouldn’t force ourselves to be. You should simply be striving to be healthier, first and foremost, and fitness will follow!
Let’s recap: Find an activity you love to do! Do it every day. Learn to love it. Make it a habit. Set a high goal that you’re fine getting close to or beyond. Then, celebrate your stamina! You are a gladiator.
Also, as a bonus here’s my favorite protein shake recipe. I made it up myself!
- 1 Scoop of Whey Protein
- 1 Cup of Almond Milk
- 1 Tablespoon of Peanut Butter
- 1 Tablespoon of Nutella
- 3 Cubes of Ice
Blend it and enjoy!
